The act of naming the alpacas is a unique feature of Meadowview Alpaca Farm. In trying to use the alpaca’s birth mother’s name in the naming process, we are better able to remember who the mother is without constantly having to refer to the detailed breeding records.
Not all alpaca yarn and products are created equal.
Yes that’s right. Some products will be identified as pure alpaca but you will find it scratchy and rough. Why is that, you say? Well it all has to do with the preparation and batching of the fibre. Let me explain…
I started working at Meadowview Alpaca Farm in July of last year. There were two babies that had already arrived, and right from the start of the summer I really wanted to see a baby on the day it was born. But every time a new baby was born last year, it was on a day when I wasn’t working. I really hoped that my luck would change this year, and that I would be able to see a baby on the day it was born, or even the day after. So, you can imagine how exciting it was to hear that Stardust was in labour and I could go down to the field to not only see a baby on the day it was born, but to watch a baby being born!

An alpaca gift - yes, alpacas give all the time. They give when they perceive a child or an adult is in need of a special moment. I have many stories of alpacas giving. I believe all animals can give, we just have to open to it. Sometimes we are just too busy to be receptive - too many video games, smart phones, smart TV’s distracting us so that, sometimes, we just don’t listen.

Our team worked tirelessly in collaboration with Tourism Sault Ste Marie and the producers of the Amazing Race, bringing everything together. We've beeen presented with many wonderful opportunities over the years, but this opportunity was truly AMAZING!
